Volunteer Appreciation

Barbara Flint, Ph.D Barbara J. Flint, PhD. Byte Back, Inc. Community Computer Training Center recognizes with gratitude the loyalty and generosity of Dr. Barbara J. Flint for consistently teaching high quality instruction in HTML and other professional development topics as a volunteer for the past 20 sessions.

Professor Flint joined Byte Back's Microsoft Office Fast Track Training at the Simpson-Hamline United Methodist Church, Vivian T. Sellars Computer Learning Center, 4501 16th ST NW to obtain computer skills. Upon completion of the course she entered Byte Back's Technology Academy and benefited from the guidance of volunteer professionals like Kate Dixon, former Board Member Cara Fulton, current Board Member Brad Greenfield, and businessman Mark Wexler.

While the acquisition of technical expertise has extended Dr. Flint's influence beyond her modest requirements, she has continually enriched our learning community. Of her many formidable talents, Dr. Flint's ability to convey technical information is most crucial to the accomplishment of Byte Back's mission to make information technology accessible.

Volunteer Opportunities

Byte Back Volunteer Byte Back is aided in its mission by professionals in the community who volunteer their time and energy to Byte Back. Below are some of the volunteer opportunities available at Byte Back. Volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation to be eligible. To find out how to register for a volunteer orientation, and for the next volunteer orientation date, click here.

Teaching - Teach PC for Beginners, Word, Excel, Access, and other classes. Class sessions last eight weeks. Some classes meet once a week, and some twice a week. Classes meet for ninety minutes, in the evenings or on weekends. A ninety minute teacher orientation for all new teachers is provided. Lesson plans and exercises are provided by Byte Back.

Fundraising Research - Several volunteers needed to do research on-line regarding funding opportunities to allow Byte Back to forward its mission. Volunteers should be familiar with the grant-writing requirements for a non-profit organization. Research can be done from the Byte Back office or from a home computer.

Resume Critique - Several volunteers, experienced in the hiring process, needed to critique resumes developed by students and interns. Fast Track students are generally looking for administrative work; Internship Tech Academy students are looking for work in the IT industry.

Teacher Recruitment - Attend local events and handout information about Byte Back to recruit volunteers.

Intern Mentoring - Assist one student in the Internship Tech Academy in the area of study on which they will primarily focus: either Web Development or Network Administration.. Our hope is that this is the area in which they will get their first job in the computer industry. Their goal is to complete at least two projects in their area of specialization between now and the end of the program - so they will have realworld, hands-on experience to increase their chances of employment in the IT industry. We would like to pair each intern with one of our volunteers who can help them complete their projects. Mentors can assist students with their projects, homework, and correspond through email. Volunteer time can be at your work, home, or at one of our sites, and at any time that is mutually convenient.
