The "digital divide" is the gap that exists between those who have access to computers
and computer training, and those who do not.

The issue of "the digital divide" - the gap that exists between those who have access to computers and computer training, and those who do not -
continues to be a socio-economic problem in Washington, DC, a city that ranks eighth in the United States in computer technology jobs. Many people are unable to escape from a vicious cycle of unemployment, a lack of low-cost educational resources, and skills needed to obtain employment. This socio-economic gap can be closed by providing low-cost computer training and education to unemployed and underserved persons suffering from a lack of resources and training. (For a detailed statistical analysis of the digital divide in Washington, DC and in the United States, click here).

In the 21st century, people need access to computers, and the skills to
use them, in order to survive and flourish in the workforce.  Byte Back's classroom training programs, combined with our newly designed E-Learning Center, provide high-tech computer training to low-income individuals and small to medium size businesses in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area.

Approximately 87% of our students are African-American, and 55% of our adult students are women. Our programs create opportunities for disadvantaged people to obtain training they need to launch or further a career.  Additionally, our low cost business programs allow small and medium size companies in economic development zones to remain competitive by training their staff at a small fraction of the cost associated with computer training seminars and programs.

Skills taught include Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, and Exchange/Outlook), basic computer usage skills, typing, web design and development, networking, logic, and upper level independent study courses.  The Current Course Offering option on the left has a full list of courses being offered this semester.  Programs vary based on demand and instructor availability
