COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

 

A+ Certification Preparation

The CompTIA A+ certification is the industry standard for computer support technicians. The CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition requires two exams to be certified: CompTIA A+ Essentials and CompTIA A+ Practical Application. CompTIA A+ Essentials tests for the fundamentals of computer technology, networking and security, communication skills and professionalism. Prerequisite: PC Hardware and Home Networking.

 

MOS TRAINER CERTIFICATION: WORD 2, EXCEL 2, POWERPOINT 2, OUTLOOK 2, ACCESS

Provides MS Office trained users with the preparation necessary to pass the Microsoft Office Specialist examinations.  Prerequisite: MS Office Track or knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT with IC3 – INTERNET AND COMPUTING CORE CERTIFICATION

Covers operating system fundamentals, hardware and troubleshooting computer systems, overview of commonly used applications, Word, Excel, data base fundamentals, special purpose software,  presentation software working on line and network basics.  Prerequisite: MS Office Track or knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.

 

MCITP - MICROSOFT CERTIFIED IT PROFESSIONAL

This certification proves your ability to successfully troubleshoot desktop environments that run on the Windows operating system. It also shows that you have the necessary soft skills to educate users and help them solve hardware and software operation and application problems on Windows.  Prerequisite:  Office Track

 

NETWORK+CERIFICATION- CompTIA Network+ certification proves knowledge of networking features and functions and is the leading vendor-neutral certification for networking professionals.  The exam addresses the latest skills needed by technicians, such as basic principles on how to secure a network.  Covers network technologies, media and topologies, devices, management, tools and security.  Prerequisite:  Knowledge of PC Hardware.

 

OFFICE TRACK – MICROSOFT OFFICE 2010

Twice weekly for 12 weeks; or daily Mon-Thurs 2 hours in 6 weeks, or 4 hours in 12 days.

Office Track delivers job skills with computer file management; word processing with MS WORD; spreadsheets and graphing with MS EXCEL and introductions to OUTLOOK and POWERPOINT. Prerequisite:  PC Beginners or placement test (to be taken at Byte Back- call to make arrangements.)

 

PC BEGINNERS

Twice a week – 12 lessons for Adults, 18 lessons for Seniors

Learn typing and Mouse basics, find resources on the internet, cut, copy and paste, save files to folders, find files, send E-mail and attachments, and understand a variety of computer applications. This course is for very beginners.

 

QUICKBOOKS

Understand profit and loss, generate reports, setting up your company in QuickBooks, organizing data effectively, protecting your data, working with vendors, tracking and paying expenses.  Prerequisite: PC Beginners and Knowledge of MS Office applications.

 

SECURITY+

CompTIA Security+ is an international, vendor-neutral certification that demonstrates competency in Network security, Compliance and operational security, Threats and vulnerabilities, Application, data and host security, Access control and identity management, Cryptography. CompTIA Security+ not only ensures that candidates will apply knowledge of security concepts, tools, and procedures to react to security incidents, it ensures that security personnel are anticipating security risks and guarding against them.
