Schedule of Classes

This summer Byte Back brings our program to several new locations in the District. New sites are Coalition for Economic Empowerment at Brookland Manor (Ward 5), Mayfair Mansions in Marshall Heights (Ward 7), and Southeast Ministry in Congress Heights (Ward 8). Byte Back will be training 24 new trainers from the DC Summer Youth Employment Program. Teams  of instructors will go to each area to provide 5-6 weeks of training in basic computer literacy skills,  Microsoft Office software and job readiness skills.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Scholarships and sliding fee scale available: no student turned away for inability to pay.

PC BEGINNERS Part 1

Part 1 Learn typing and Mouse basics, find resources on the internet, basic editing, E-mail. This course is for very beginners.  Full cost $400.00

PC BEGINNERS Part 2

Manage files and folders, E-mail attachments, format text and pictures, and backup your files. Prerequisites:  strong mouse skills, able to cut and paste, able to save a file to a folder, or PC Beginners Part 1. 

MS  OFFICE  TRACK  2007

Office Track delivers strong Job Development with computer file management; word processing with MS WORD; spreadsheets and graphing with MS EXCEL and introductions to OUTLOOK and POWERPOINT. Prerequisite:  PCB 1 & 2 or placement test (to be taken at Byte Back- call to make arrangements).    

MCAS  Word, and MCAS Excel

Provides MS Office trained users with the preparation necessary to pass the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist examinations.  Prerequisite: MS Office Track or knowledge of MS Word or MS Excel.

IC3 – Internet and Computing Core Certification

IC3 is the first computer certification to be recognized by the National Skill Standards Board (NSSB).  IC3 was created by Certiport, Inc. in 2000 to address the need for a globally-recognized and accepted standard of basic computing knowledge to be considered fundamental to academic learning and a minimum requirement for employment in a typical office setting.  Prerequisite: MS Office Track or knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel. Full Cost is reduced for this first time offering. 

Windows 7

Getting started with Windows 7, Windows 7 programs, customizing the OS, setting up user accounts, getting organized with Windows, incl Windows Live People, Importing contacts, Windows live Calendar, sharing your pictures, music software, and more.  Prerequisite: computing experience or Personal Computing for Beginners course.
